March is the month when women’s day is celebrated with great gusto throughout the world. Bollywood has witnessed some heroines who have rocked the screens with their smoldering presence. Inspired by them, the theme for March 3rd show was songs from movies of iconic heroines Madhubala, Waheeda, Kajol and Rani.
An auspicious start was given to the evening by Niraj Jain, who soulfully invoked the blessings of goddess Saraswati. The 4 heroines, had they personally witnessed would have been extremely proud of the song choices, delivery and execution by all members. Madhura Vartak’s Tu Chanda Mein Chandni, Shalaka Redkar’s Raat Bhi Hai Kuch Bheegi Bheegi, Vinita Sawant’s Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil were all beautifully rendered. Smita Nikam, who has off late developed a penchant for taking tough numbers made her mark with Paan Khaye Saiyan Hamaaro in the theme round and her energetic rendition of O Maria with Ashok Gupta in the non-themeround.
The era of Madhubala was recreated by Arti Gadgil who not only sang the iconic song Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya with perfection but also took pains to dress in similar attire. Another hall mark number of the evening was Jhumroo. The song which has Kishore Kumar’s yodeling was belted out with Kishore like voice and energy by Kunal Kaushal and received cheers of’ once more’ from the audience. The songs from movies of Mukherjee cousins, Kajol and Rani were a hit too amongst the audience, notably, Mitali Vaishnav’s Jiya Lage Na, Sreekumar Nair and Anupama Gupta’s -Tauba Tumhare Ye Ishaare from Chalte Chalte.
The non-theme round had Rohan Said the lad with the golden voice, singing Dil Diya Gallan and garnering appreciation from all present. Niraj Srivastav who is at his best in Shailendra songs was in top form with Mein Shayar To Nahi. However, the evening truly belonged to Nikita Daharwal. Blessed with a mellifluous voice Nikita will be leaving a void as she shifts abroad to join her husband Abhinav Daharwal. The occasion demanded a fitting sendoff to a singer who with every performance and stride in musical field had always made Nirvana group proud.
Founder Sanjay Rohida, recognizing this sentiment prevalent in the group made it a special evening for her, by according her the status of celebrity guest of the evening. Nikita like a true star, rose to the role accorded and made each number sung by her one to remember. Not a tear jerker this farewell was, as the compering was handled by Laxman Karki and Ashok Gupta in a manner that had all present rolling with laughter. The two showed their true mettle as singers when they performed their numbers Zara Nazron Se Kehdon and Ye Nayan Dare Dare wonderfully.
