What prompted you to become a doctor?
I've always had a natural inclination towards biology, and a desire to help people in whatever little way I could.
Why did you choose Opthalmology?
Opthalmology as a field has always fascinated me. Eyes, despite being so small in size compared to the rest of the body, are vital to us. They are the gateway to the world, and make up a major chunk of our experiences. For this reason, I have made vision my mission. I am at my happiest when I can make my patients experience the world in a crystal clear manner and I don't leave any stone unturned for the same.
Opthalmology like any other medical field is an evolving science. There is just so much to learn. The fact that it can benefit my patients provides further impetus to keep learning.
I have always believed that there should be a balance between my personal and professional life. For the same reason, I have restricted myself to working for 6 hours in the morning and dedicate the rest of the day to my family.
In this manner, I can help my patients get their vision back in the morning, and help my children get the vision of life by spending time with them once I am back home.

How does Indian healthcare compare to healthcare abroad?
As Indians, it's in our culture to be extremely hard working, and as a result, in my opinion, we churn out excellent doctors. Infact, Indian doctors constitute a major chunk of the healthcare system abroad. I really believe Indian Healthcare is at par with healthcare abroad, not just in terms of expertise, but in terms of machinery and the latest technological advances as well.
What is the secret of your successful practice?
I think that as long as you're passionate about what you do, and you don't lose sight of why you do it, the experience is thoroughly enjoyable. The best thing about my job is that it doesn't get repetitive, or monotonous and I wake up every morning looking forward to the experiences the day will bring. I think that's the key to succeeding in anything you do - pouring your heart and soul into whatever it is.
