Local Story February 2018

Senior Citizens’ Association, Raheja Vihar

Senior Citizens’ Association, Raheja Vihar held Flag Hoisting Ceremony on Friday 26th January 2018 at the Club House Raheja Vihar. On the schedule time, 10.00 a.m., the Tri Colour was unfurled by Mr. Sharad Pawar. Secretary Mr. S.K. Tripathi  welcomed the guests and appealed to the seniors to encourage the young children to participate in such functions to inculcate the value of patriotism amongst them.

In the evening, the Association held its Annual Dinner. The dinner venue, Club House, Raheja Vihar was buzzing with members from 6.30 p.m. onwards.

Seniors are always looking forward to occasions where they can share their minds with friends. The age defines the person’s disengagement from business or jobs. But in reality age does not always equate with the physical or intellectual competency of an individual. We have many enthusiastic seniors who have the desire and passion to offer services. Some are voluntarily engaged in social service and some are willing to offer services. Being aware of this innate yearning, the Association had invited two young entrepreneurs, Vaibhav and Sonal of ‘The H Capital Enterprises’. This organisation offers placements to seniors and all job seekers. They also cater to Inclusive Employment which means they procure jobs to people with restricted abilities. Vaibhav introduced the concept of ‘Service after 60’. He explained to the seniors how life becomes interesting with jobs of flexible working hours or ‘work from home jobs’. Members gave a very positive response and got many queries answered by the twosome.

In the midst of Pani-puri and chaat, members settled for a Tambola round. Mrs. Minaksh Suri was the Expert Caller of the numbers.  It is amazing and interesting to watch the seniors slip into youthful enthusiasm with number cards in their hands. An absolute silence prevailed in the hall. With ears to the caller and eyes on the card, they enjoyed the game. The winners were cheered and envied too! Our Association contributes humbly to help our members to manage their social needs. Monthly meetings of the Association refresh the EQ, Emotional Quotient of our members.

Thus the one hour of entertainment was refreshing. Gradually the aroma of Kadhi Chawal, paneer khorma, kaju kerela and gajar halwa awakened the gourmet and soon there was a beeline at the food counter! Members enjoyed the dinner and left with a feeling of joy and satisfaction. An evening well spent together.
