It was sometime in 1940 that Mr. Chandrarao Kadam dreamt of creating a studio that had multiple, diverse locations. The idea was to use the location to produce his home movies and offer it to other producers too. This was unprecedented in the industry but soon there were others who followed his footsteps.
The site he chose to realise his dream was Chandivali. In those days Chandivali was all about forests and mountains. It took him nearly 5 years to level the ground and a lifetime to create and develop various locations. For someone who started off as a Gymnastic coach in the army to becoming an actor, director, producer and finally a film studio owner, Mr. Kadam had come a long long way.
While there is a lot of appreciation for Mr. Kadam's unflinching hard work to realise his dream, the Studio would not have prospered without his eldest son Hemant Kadam (fondly known as Baba).
His dedication and commitment and relentless pursuit to constantly improve the shooting locations and facilities within the studio premises ensured that the studio was one of the best in Mumbai.
Thousands of films in hindi, regional languages, music videos and landmark songs have been shot at the studio. Whether it was Rajesh Khanna's superhit song Ye Reshami Julfe or Anil Kapoor's One two ka four from the film Ram Lakhan, Chnadivali studio has seen it all.
Amitabh's unmatched performances in Deewar, Naseeb, Don, Mr. Natwarlal, Coolie, Agneepath, etc have mostly been shot here. The recent superhit film Barfi starring Ranbir Kapoor was mostly shot in the studio.
All the superstars have visited the studio at one time or another; Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Sunny Deol, Salman Khan, etc. Needless to say all the top heroines have graced the turf of Chandivali studios over the years.
In the last seven decades, the studio has seen the rise of many superstars. Amitabh once went on record stating that Chandivali Studio was his 'Second Home'. He would spend so much time there as it was the location for most of his superhit movies.
The service and hospitality of the studio gets a lot of appreciation from stars, directors and producers. Inspired by the studio's motto of: Caring is a powerful business advantage, there is an air of warmth and homeliness that keeps the clients in high spirits.
The studio is spread over six acres of land with the most modern facilities to make every shoot very comfortable. In fact, the studio has the best of both the indoor facilities and outdoor facilities. One can shoot an entire film in the studio without stepping out.
